Jurassic Park Art of Geek Challenge | June 2018

The Art of Geek Challenge is a monthly, just for fun, geek-themed maker challenge inspired by movies, tv shows, comic books and more.

June's theme: Jurassic Park
June's theme for the Art of Geek Challenge was Jurassic Park coinciding with the release of Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom.  Participants had the entire month of June to create something inspired by the Jurassic Park universe.

So here is our official entry to this month’s @artofgeekchallenge. We found an awesome piece of artwork that captured one of our favourite scenes in the first movie perfectly, so we recreated it as a piece of wall art. We wanted to experiment with this one so tried some new techniques that we never have before. The T-Rex skull was cut individually on the scrollsaw and then scorched using a blowtorch. This came out better than we expected and we love the grain pattern showing through. The car was carved with a 3mm router bit freehand using a special jig that we made just for this project. We then sprayed it black and sanded off the excess. The whole thing is mounted on a pallet wood background and we kept the weathered look to match that of the artwork. We then added a simple hardwood frame and it was done. We are really proud of this video and think our editing skills are getting better so, as always, we welcome feedback! Good luck to all the entries - there is some ridiculously awesome stuff on this feed! #aogdino 🦖 . . . . . #brothersmake #woodworking #workshop #dowoodworking #makermovement #makestuff #igwoodworkingcommunity #jurassicpark #jurassicworld #fallenkingdom #wallart #walldecor #dinosaurtheme #shosugiban #blowtorch #woodburning #scorched #torchedwood #palletwood #palletwoodprojects #upcycling #reclaimedmaterials #voiceover #narration #trex #trexskull
